Cardiff University Rugby Club is delighted to announce a new partnership with innDex, a construction technology company founded by Cardiff University alumni George Smithies and Aaron Vousden. The collaboration marks the return of two former students to their roots and underscores a shared commitment to supporting the next generation of Cardiff University athletes, students, and future industry leaders.
Smithies and Vousden first met as civil engineering students at Cardiff University, where they shared both the lecture hall and the rugby pitch. Following graduation, they moved to London to pursue careers in civil engineering. Their first-hand experiences of the construction industry later inspired them to launch innDex, a platform designed to streamline and digitalise site management.
This partnership will provide immediate support to the Rugby Club and lay the groundwork for longer-term initiatives, including bursaries for engineering students and awards for outstanding final-year projects. With innDex also sponsoring London Welsh RFC, the partnership creates a clear pathway for Cardiff students to continue playing rugby at a competitive level after graduation while developing their professional careers in London’s construction sector.
Importantly, the collaboration goes beyond traditional sponsorship. With innDex’s support, the club is now able to bring greater focus to its performance analysis and leadership development, using data and performance indicators to enhance player understanding and decision-making. This initiative is helping Cardiff’s leadership group become more effective leaders, both on and off the field.
Speaking on the partnership, George Smithies, Co-founder of innDex, said:
“Cardiff University played a huge part in shaping who we are today – it’s where Aaron and I met, built lifelong friendships, and started the journey that led to founding innDex. Supporting the Rugby Club is about giving back to a community that gave so much to us, while inspiring current students to explore opportunities in construction. The industry faces a significant skills challenge, and by strengthening the connection between education, rugby, and career pathways, we hope to help develop the next generation of leaders.”
Chris Davies, Head of Rugby at Cardiff University, added:
“We’re really excited about this partnership with innDex. It’s fantastic to see former students not only giving back but actively contributing to the development of our players. With innDex’s support, we’re now able to gather more focus around our analysis and performance indicators, which is already helping our leadership group to become better leaders and decision-makers. The connection between Cardiff, London Welsh, and innDex also provides our players with a clear pathway to continue their rugby and professional development beyond university.”
