Cardiff University Rugby’s positive upturn in form was put to an emphatic end by the University of Bath who swept the hosts aside 77-14 in a decidedly one-sided contest in Llanrumney.

The home side entered the game high on confidence following two consecutive victories, including a stunning victory on the road against league leaders Exeter the previous week. However, after just 6 minutes it was the visitors who broke the deadlock when Tyler Offiah finished off a devasting move which started in Bath’s own 22.

What followed was a half of complete domination which saw seven unanswered tries including another from Offiah, the half concluding with a penalty try awarded following a deliberate knock on. The half time score made for grim reading for Cardiff, 0 – 48.

Despite an improved performance after the break, two Bath tries saw Cardiff 0-60 down after 60 minutes. Just 4 minutes later however, the hosts finally had something to celebrate. A well worked try by Mason Archer followed by an impressive conversion on the angle by fly-half Tomi Booth saw Cardiff record their first score of the evening.

Unfortunately for the home side though, Bath refused to take their foot off the pedal, racking up 3 more tries to take the score to 7-77. These extra points could prove crucial is Bath’s fight for the BUCS Super Rugby title this season, which is likely to go down to the wire.

The hosts would end the match on a positive note, however, as with the clock in the red Cardiff inside centre Josh Pascoal-Reynolds crashed over the try line, with Tomi Booth converting once again to leave the final score 77 – 14.
